President returns from C''wealth summit


Accra, Nov 29, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Wednesday, arrived from the Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting (CHOGM) in Valletta Malta.
Briefing journalists, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the Heads of State and Governments and their representatives re-affirmed their commitment to the core values of the organisation.

He said an innovation in this years'' summit was the introduction of the Foreign Ministers'' meeting that discussed wide range of issues bothering on the rule of law, terrorism, international peace and security as well the proliferation of small arms in developing countries.

At the executive meeting, the leaders endorsed the proposal by developing countries on the abolition of agricultural subsidies by the industrialised nations.

They also called for equal access of products from the developing countries to the international market, which he said would be articulated at the forthcoming World Trade Organisation (WTO) meeting in Doha.

Vice President Aliu Mahama, Ministers of State and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Mr Ibrahim Omar, Service Commanders and officials of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs, met the President at the airport.
