Bimbilla MP appeals for calm Accra, Jan. 13, GNA - The Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Mr Mohammed Ibn Abass on Thursday appealed to the feuding factions in the chieftaincy conflict that has erupted in Bimbilla to exercise restraint and end hostilities.
In a statement issued in Accra, he said he had received reports of renewed hostilities in the Bimbilla Township with "a heavy heart". "I, therefore, wish to appeal to the factions involved and the entire people of the State of Nanum to exercise the utmost tolerance and restraint in order to bring about cessation of hostilities and the eventual return of peace," he said.
"We are one people with a common destiny and so should work towards achieving unity of purpose to ensure peace, stability and development," he he said.
Mr Abbas thanked the law enforcement agencies operating in the area for doing their best to prevent the escalation of violence and called on everybody to cooperate with them to ensure the return of peace and normalcy to the area.
"I also wish to urge the personnel of the security agencies involved in maintaining law and order in the area to carry out their duties with professionalism and civility in order to promote harmonious relationship with the local communities in which they are operating." Mr Abbas urged the Government, Regional House of Chiefs and all agencies currently working for the resolution of the Bimbilla chieftaincy dispute to speed up their efforts at finding an amicable, lasting and sustained solution to the matter.Source: GNA
