NGO announces International African Peace Awards 12/20/2006
Accra, Dec. 20, GNA - A nongovernmental organisation (NGO), Ahenti Management has announced that Africans and friends of Africa who have contributed towards peace on the Continent would be honoured under its International African Peace Awards.

Ahenti Management said in a statement issued in Accra that the objectives of the awards also include to foster peace and harmony on the Continent, celebrate the efforts of those who have ensured peace in Africa and endorse the prospect of future peace and harmonious co-existence for the future.

Barima Adu-Asamoa, Chief Executive of Ahenti, said the Awards would be launched in Accra and London soon and candidates would be from Africa.

There would also be the African Diaspora Category, which would include candidates from North and South America.

Barima Adu-Asamoa said the public would vote for the candidates after which a distinguished international panel would make the final selection for the awards, which would be held biannually. The statement said the NGO had briefed the National House of Chiefs on the event and obtained its blessings.

The President of the National House of Chiefs, Odeneho Gyapong Ababio II said the awards were ''laudable and noble events''.

=93Ghana has been at the centre of African world and the International Peace Awards, coming at the time of our Golden Jubilee Anniversary, will signal to the world that Ghana is still at the forefront of relevant issues that concern the continent,=94 Odeneho Ababio said.
