| Woman, accomplices in court for alleged blackmail of Man of God |

woman who allegedly succeeded in collecting 18.9 million cedis from a Reverend Minister on claims that an abortion the Man of God asked her to cause had developed medical complications appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday with her accomplices.
Mina Adwoa Otoo, a 30-year-old former Marketing Officer of Sunny FM, a private radio station in Accra, took advantage of the absence of a Man of God and succeeded in collecting 18.9 million cedis from his Church to ostensibly enable her to seek medical attention after an alleged abortion.
Mina, who was working for Sunny FM, is said to have gone to an Assistant Bishop to the Reverend Bob Hawkson, General Overseer of Jubilee International Church at Pig Farm in Accra claiming that Rev. Hawkson had made her pregnant and had asked her to cause an abortion but the said abortion had developed complications.
Mina, who was in the dock with her accomplices, Lydia Boyefio, a 26 year-old trader, and Richard Appiah, a pharmacy assistant, who helped her to secure fake documents covering her medical bills, pleaded not guilty.
Also in the dock was Roland Hammond, a pharmacist of Mataheko Pharmacy, who allegedly prepared forged medical report for her for a fee of 500,000 cedis.
They all pleaded not guilty and the Court admitted them to 50 million cedis bail each to reappear on January 24, 2007.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eric Amoako told the Court that in 2005, Mina approached Rev Hawkson and got him to broadcast religious programmes on Sunny FM.
The Prosecution said Mina took advantage of the relationship and was demanding money from Rev Hawkson.
In August 2006 when Rev Hawkson travelled outside the country Mina went to his office and told the Assistant Bishop that Rev Hawkson had made her pregnant and had asked her to cause an abortion.
She said the abortion had developed complications and she needed money for medical examination and treatment. When the Assistant Bishop demanded evidence of the abortion, she produced a medical report purportedly issued by Mayfair Clinic at Laterbiokoshie, Accra.
The Prosecution said Mina succeeded in collecting 18.9 million cedis from the Assistant Bishop.
When Rev. Hawkson returned in November, 2006 he was informed about what happened and he went to Mayfair Clinic to investigate. He was then told that the medical report had been forged.
Rev. Hawkson reported the case to the Police and Mina and her accomplices were arrested.
