| Media urged to use their work to help improve sanitation |

Elmina, Dec. 27, GNA- The Minister of Public Sector Reform, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, on Wednesday called on the media to help the various district assemblies to fight insanitary conditions to enhance tourism. He noted that many district assemblies were saddled with the problem of keeping their environment clean and urged the media to help in this direction, adding that if issues concerning the environment were addressed it would go long way to attract more tourists and investors. Dr. Nduom, who made the call at a press soiree in Elmina underscored the importance of the media in the socio-economic development of the nation and urged politicians to regularly interact with the media since they could "make and un make them".
He however, called on the media to always endeavour to make constructive criticisms and also ensure that they give the right picture of issues to the public.
Touching on workers salary, the Minister gave the assurance that everything would be done for workers to be paid good salaries, adding that there was going to be salary increases for all workers next year.
He however urged workers to always exercise restraint and make realistic demands, stressing that next year, workers would be given salary increase of between 35 and 80 percent but regretted that even with this increase some are demanding between 400 and 500 percent salary increment which, he said the government would not be able to pay. He said when such unrealistic demands are made the government would be forced to increase taxes and the burden would be too much on the tax payer.
Mr Kojo Quansah, assistant head of programmes at the Radio Central, GBC FM station in Cape Coast commended Dr. Nduom for the programme and urged other politicians to emulate him, adding that they should not wait until elections time or festive occasions before contacting the media.
In a related development, Dr Nduom feted more than 1,600 school children from his constituency in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem district during Christmas party organized at Coconut Grove Hotel. The children were given packed food, drinks and token gifts of notebooks, pencils, and toffees and were also treated to music and games.
Dr. Nduom urged the children to take their studies seriously and called on parents to send their children to school and ensure that they sustain their interest in education by providing them with their needs.Source:
