| NPP Delegates Conference Scheduled For January |

Some 2000 delegates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will between January 5 and January 7, 2007, storm Koforidua to stage the party''s first delegates conference, since Mr Peter Mac Manu was elected Chairman of the party a year ago.
The National Delegates Congress is a meeting of the supreme decision-making body of the party, which is held every year, during which delegates review the party''s performance throughout the year and make very crucial resolutions towards the coming year.
Expectations are very high that crucial amendments will be made to the party''s constitution, especially the provision that governs the time frame for the election of a flagbearer, to respond to current political realities.
The provision governing the election of a flag bearer holds that congress for the election of a presidential candidate be held not more that 11 months to a general election, but some party big shorts have been pushing for an amendment to allow for an early congress to elect a flag bearer.
They argue that an early election of a flagbearer will allow the elected candidate enough time to market himself to the electorate, even though other party gurus are opposed to this argument.
Mr Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of the NPP in an interview with Ghananewstoday said that contrary to reports, the Koforidua congress will come to pass without a single amendment to the ruling party''s constitution.
Mr Mac Manu added that the congress would among other things, respond to the recent second re-election of Prof John Evans Attah Mills as the flagbearer of the opposition NDC.
The three-day conference under the theme "Moving forward in unity", would be hosted at the famous Hotel EREDEC and climaxed with a non-denominational church service on Sunday, January 7, and a rally at the Jackson''s Park later on the same day.
