Accra, Dec. 30, GNA - Major Sheikh Seidu Adams, Chief Imam of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Saturday tasked the Muslim community as well as Ghanaians to abide by the code and ethics of their professions in order for the country to realize its developmental goals.
He said adopting this attitude would help to curb the abuse of power; corruption; nepotism; ethnicity; greediness, abuse of humans right and injustice, thereby bringing about love, peace, sound social interaction and cohesion.
He said this in a sermon to mark the Eid-Ul-Adha celebration at the Al Aziz Central Mosque at Burma Camp in Accra.
Eid-Ul-Adha commemorates Abraham''s obedience to the directive by God to sacrifice his son Ishmael but was stop by God, who substituted a ram. The occasion is celebrated annually across the globe by Muslims. It comes seventy days after the Ramadan fast, and climaxes the annual pilgrimage rituals in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Maj. Adam said like Abraham, Ghanaians should honour and fulfil their vows, oath of allegiance, pledges and promises religiously. He noted that the human society across the globe was plagued with diseases, poverty, conflicts, wars, political and social instability, insecurity, due to the fact that humanity had irreligiously dishonoured their vows.
"Allah is the overall witness to the vows, oaths, pledges and promises that we make and, therefore, failure to fulfil them displeases God and this has negative implications to the individual and the society", he said.
He said in order to bring glory and honour to the individual and the society it was incumbent on all to honour vows.
In a message to mark the festival, Lieutenant General J. B. Danquah, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the GAF, urged Muslims to apply themselves to the lessons learnt during the festive occasion and reiterated the need to live by the sterling examples of great leaders in history.
He entreated Ghanaians to emulate Prophet Abraham for the betterment of both the present and future generations.
The CDS also urged them to use the occasion to pray for peace and love to prevail in the nations, especially as the country prepared to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of its independence early next year.
