Murder at Prampram

A Dawn shooting at Prampram in the Greater Accra Region during a vigil on New Year’s Eve has recorded what the police believe to be the first murder case of the year.
It occurred when unidentified assailants took advantage of the vigil and gunned down a 95-year-old man in a bloody affair which threw the township into a state of panic.
A team of police personnel sent to Prampram to patrol the area and help calm nerves later arrested five suspects for interrogation.
Taking advantage of the midnight celebrations, the gunmen sneaked into the deceased’s house, switched off the lights before shooting him down.
The body of the deceased, Numo Narh Mensah, alias John Narh Mensah, has since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Although the reasons for the incident remain unknown, the police suspect that a dispute in the family over who should be the family head and disputes over land could be the cause.
According to the Deputy Crime Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, DSP O. Appiah-Kubi, the police had information that a man had been shot by unidentified assailants in his house at about 1.00 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
He said a team was immediately dispatched to the town to ascertain the truth or otherwise of the incident, explaining that, according to the deceased’s wife, Mrs Mary Mensah, there had been a dispute over who was entitled to be the head of the family.
DSP Appiah-Kubi said the woman claimed that she could not see the assailants because of the fact that the place was dark.
