Government workers at the Ministries, Agencies and Departments will from February 1, 2007 clock in their arrival times at their workplaces.
The measure, one of many to check lateness and ensure high productivity within the public sector, comes into effect with the introduction of a biometric clock-in system.
The Public Sector Reform Minister, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom told Joy News that the Ministry would by the end of January complete the installation of the biometric clocks.
“Obviously we want to make sure that Government employees do go to work and also do go to work in a timely manner when they are supposed to be there. But number two, we also want to uniquely use this to identify who works for Government, that is to be able to improve on our staff count because the biometric characteristic identifies each individual uniquely, it will now be able to tell us how many people we really have.”
Dr. Nduom said the Ministry was getting funding from a number of sources to extend the biometric clocks to the regional administrations and assured that a competitive process put in place would ensure that the best system was secured for the purpose.
