The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Na Yakubu Abdulai Andani, has entreated the chiefs and people of Dagbon to avoid violence and preach peace for the accelerated development of the area.
“We have only one common enemy in Dagbon and that is ignorance and poverty; let us fight this canker in unity because nobody ever gains in fighting a war,” he stressed.
The Regent, who stated this in his New Year message delivered to the press in Tamale, also observed that "last year, Dagbon saw a lot of improvement with regard to peace".
According to him, the successful burial of the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, was a sign of improvement in security, adding, "Thanks to the able leadership of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs and all stakeholders."
The Kampakuya-Na equally commended the security agencies in Dagbon for their commitment to maintaining peace in the area.
He called on politicians to avoid "ethnicity and tribal lineages during your campaigns". The Regent pointed out that political parties had a common agenda to ensure the well-being of the citizenry, as well as meaningful development of the country.
He said it would, therefore, be suicidal for any political party to preach divisiveness and stressed that "Ghana is above any political party and this I wish all political parties in the country to note".
