CEPS donates to Ghana Heart Foundation
Accra, Sept. 14, GNA - The Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) on Wednesday donated 50 million cedis to the Ghana Heart Foundation to assist the work of the National Cardio-thoracic Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The donation realized from contributions from personnel of the Service, forms part of the institution''s social responsibility to the country. This is the fourth time CEPS is contributing to the Foundation. Major General Richardson Baiden, CEPS Commissioner, who made the donation, said the Service deemed it a national duty to support what the Centre was doing for Ghanaians.
He said the Centre was a noble institution, which should be supported to acquire the necessary facilities that would help its work. The Commissioner had earlier signed a book of condolence in memory of the three urologists who lost their lives in a motor accident last month.
He said: "We mourn with you on the great loss of our noble doctors. I hope the incident would spur Korle-Bu to train more specialists to fill the vacancies created by their departure". Professor J.M.K. Quartey, Dr Isaac Bentsi and Dr Benjamin Osei-Wiafe died in a motor accident last month on the Bunso-Apedwa stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway when they were returning from an outreach programme at the Sunyani General Hospital.
Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, expressed his appreciation for the donation and said the Hospital was changing, not only physically but also in the improvement of the skills of doctors and other personnel. The Hospital, he said, was introducing new equipment and upgrading its services to meet the needs of Ghanaians and to provide optimum health care to the people. 13 Sept. 05
