AMSTERDAM — The Maastricht public prosecution office said on Thursday it had insufficient evidence to prosecute Dion Graus, an MP for the Freedom Party PVV on charges he beat up his eight-month pregnant wife in 2003.
It had been reported at the end of last year that Graus'' wife had claimed she had been hospitalised because of the beating allegedly inflicted by her husband. She lodged a police report against Graus.
The PVV party was set up by right-wing MP Geert Wilders. It won nine seats at the November 2006 elections largely on an anti-immigration ticket.
