Evangelist Beaten Up For Asking About ''''Hotel Kufuor'''' 1/17/2007
Violence Rocks Peoples Assembly
Evangelist Oppong Daniel, was given a bitter dose of the NPP violence, when he was set upon and badly beaten by some NPP goons for daring to make submissions at the Sunyani Peoples Assembly considered as provocative.
Evangelist Oppong Daniel, was followed by his assailants when he left the hall soon after making his submission.

Speaking to the Lens, the Evangelist said the attack took place in a house not far from the venue, where he had retired after leaving the Peoples Assembly. Unknown to him, the NPP goons had trailed him all the way from the hall.

The assailants including three policemen pounced on the defenseless evangelist and beat him up severely for daring, in their view, to embarrass the president by his submission.

Evangelist Oppong had drawn the attention of the president to some of the cases that clearly border on corruption- particularly, he made references to the Hotel Kufuor case and to Richard Anane’s transfer of hundreds of millions to his American girlfriend.

Evangelist Oppong ended his submission by reminding the President that God’s curse or blessing of the government will depend on whether he and his officials stay away from corruption.

Earlier on, a worse form was of violence was averted by the swift intervention of security forces present, when NPP supporters went wild following a submission by one Dr Asem Foforo.

Dr Asem Foforo entreated the President to call off the legal harassment of the former first lady. Dr Asem Foforo, who is a known NDC radio caller, in his submission referred to the taped conversations of former NPP Chairman Haruna Esseku that revealed that the president was receiving billions of kickbacks at the castle. He also asked the President to swear that he has never misapplied any state monies since he became president.

But for the swift intervention of some professional policemen present, Dr Asem Foforo would have virtually been lynched by the irate NPP mob. He was whisked to safety by the Police and kept at the police station for sometime. He was left to go after a few hours and advised to sneak out of town to avoid falling into the hands of the NPP supporters.
