A police and military combined team in Bimbilla have retrieved arms and ammunition from Buli, a farming community in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region.
The team found 14 shot guns and 10 live cartridges and arrested 14 people.
Ephraim O. Barakatu, Regional Police Commander, who disclosed this to the Times yesterday, said the security personnel swooped on the community upon a tip off. He said the team, acting swiftly, carried out search on six houses leading to the retrieval of the weapons.
Mr. Barakatu said the District Security Committee has been meeting on the security situation in the area to ensure the maintenance of peace.
Patrols have been intensified to avoid the escalation of tension and possible clash in the area following dispute over the enskinment of a new Bimbilla-Na and a recent conflict in the market over the pricing of grains.
The Regional Commander stressed that the security personnel would continue the search in order to ensure that all weapons in wrong hands were retrieved because the area is a security zone and no one is permitted to possess guns.
