Tourism Minister Launches “Accra Tour” |

Friday, 26 January 2007 The Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey has urged Ghanaians to develop keen interest in the history of the country in order to be able to educate their children on the country’s history.
According to the Minister, history could be passed on adequately to posterity when the present generation have a better understanding and knowledge of their towns and communities. Mr Obestsebi Lamptey made these remarks in Accra today when he launched a domestic tourism programme dubbed “Accra Tours”.
The programme is the initiative of the Tour Operators Union of Ghana in collboration with Metro Mass Transit and the Tour Guides Associations of Ghana under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations. Under the programme, interested people who wish to tour Accra will be conveyed by a Metro Mass Transit Bus on Wednesdays and Sundays to tour various places of Accra at a fee of 50,000 cedis per adult and 25,000 cedis per child beginning from, Wednesday 31 January, 2007.
The programme is expected to be replicated in other regions later. The President of the Tour Guides Association of Ghana, Mr Nkunu Akyea advised the public to patronise the programme to sustain it.By: Emmanuel Akorli
