| Kufuor leaves for Ethiopia On Saturday |

Accra, Jan. 26, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor leaves Accra on Saturday, January 27, 2007, for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend the Eighth Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union.
A statement signed by Mr Andrew Awuni, Press Secretary to President Kufuor, said the high point of the meeting would be the election of a new Chairman of the Union to take over from Congolese President Sassou Nguesso.
Additionally, there would be a special presentation and discussion on the theme: "Science and Technology and Scientific Research for Development", as well as the launch of the International Year of African Football.
The statement said President Kufuor would present the first annual report on the implementation of Ghana''s Programme of action under the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) on the margins of the Summit.
Ghana has the distinction of being the first member of the Union to join the peer review mechanism and is therefore a pacesetter in the AU''s quest for good governance under the New Partnership for Africa''s Development (NEPAD) arrangement.
President Kufuor, who would be accompanied by senior government officials, is expected back home on Wednesday, January 31, 2007.
Creation of polling stations is prerogative of EC -Dery
Goripie (UW), Jan. 26, GNA - Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister, on Friday stated that the creation of polling stations and constituencies was the prerogative of the Electoral Commission and not for politicians to decide.
He urged all those who wanted such polling stations to formally apply to the Electoral Commission, which would study and find out if it was feasible to create them in those areas.
Mr Dery who was reacting to a question as to when more polling stations would be created for some of the communities in the Wa East constituency in view of the growing numbers of voters in the area during their turn of People''s Assembly at Goripie, a farming community in the District.
He said it was wrong to engage their Chief Executives and Members of Parliament in confrontations and litigations when it was easier to apply to the appropriate quarters for their problems to be addressed.
The Regional Minister said the demands of people all over the country were numerous and advised the people to be content with whatever was given them at a time and still work hard to achieve others rather than using, unorthodox means to make their demands.
Mr Godfrey Bayong Tangu, Member of Parliament for Wa East, said since he was elected he was able to acquire a 100 million cedi loan for women groups in the constituency, 133.5 million cedis to assist students and acquired a tractor for women to improve on their lot among others and urged them to keep supporting them to achieve their goals.
He advised them against politicizing the National Health Insurance Scheme, the National Immunization Programme and the National Identification Programme as they were crucial to the development of the country.
Mr Adams Mahama Issahaku, Wa East District Chief Executive, said his outfit would harness and develop all tourist attractions in the District to promote tourism in the area to the outside world.
