The first meeting of the third session of the Fourth Parliament of the Fourth Republic resumes today after the Christmas recess. Among the highlights for this session would be President J.A Kufuor’s State of the Nation address, to be delivered in the House on Thursday February 1, 2007.

The Head of Public Affairs of Parliament, Mr. Jones Kugblenu told Daily Guide that although parts of Parliament were under renovation, business of the House would still go on without any hitches, “and those doing the renovation will work on all days including weekends.”

Papers and reports may be presented to the House for consideration and those which have already been submitted, may be taken through the various stages of passage. Motions may be debated and the appropriate resolutions taken where required.

Among the bills to be considered are the Criminal Code (Amendment), Domestic Violence, Transfer of Convicted Persons, Data Processing Control Board Decree (Repeal), Central Securities Depository and Restriction on Use of Military Uniforms and Equipment (Amendment) Bills. It is expected as well that Nana Abu Bonsra, winner of the Fomena bye-election would be sworn-in.
