ECG Disorganizes Parliament 2/6/2007
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on Friday disrupted parliamentary proceedings for some time when they put off lights in the chamber of the House while proceedings were on-going.

This momentarily halted proceedings for close to five minutes to the amazement of the Speaker, Rt. Hon Ebenezer Sekyi-Hughes and all Members of Parliament present in the chamber at the time.

At the time the unfortunate situation happened, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central, was on his feet contributing to the debate on the motion calling on the House to adopt the report of the Joint Committees on Finance and Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises on the Millennium Challenge Compact between the United States of America acting through the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Government of the Republic of Ghana.

The power outage in the House threw the chamber into dead silence all of a sudden and disorganized Hon. Ayariga, who was still on his feet even though the lights were off. After some time the MPs began to tease themselves with the minority saying, “Oh NPP.”

Not long after that however, the lights were restored to pave way for the continuation of proceedings.
