The East Ayawaso constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its founder, Jerry John Rawlings of seeking to create a state of anxiety and panic in the country.
In a statement read on behalf of the party by Alhaji Alidu Mohammed, a retired Chief Inspector of Police, who is the Publicity Secretary of the party in the constituency, the NPP described the announced plan by the Committee of Joint Action (CJA) to disrupt the forthcoming Golden Jubilee Independence anniversary as a wicked attempt to plunge the country into acrimonious variance.
Considering the plan and the ongoing boycott of Parliament by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as reprehensible, the party noted that “March 6 is less than a month away. It is a day which has attracted the attention of the entire world, requiring the best of behaviour from us all.”
Condemning the ongoing boycott of Parliament by the NDC MPs, the constituency stated that they could have gone to court to challenge the ruling, asking “are they looking for justice, playing political mischief, setting the stage for subversion of state and constitution?”
The statement re-echoed President John Agyekum Kufuor’s remark on the boycott “it is sad, very sad indeed. We will appeal to them to resume their seats in Parliament, where their constituents elected them to be.”
Seeking the motive behind the boycott, they wondered whether “due process was not followed.” Or “that Abodakpi was innocent of the charges? That the judge was biased?”
It advised the NDC to exploit the appellate system for another look at the case without delay, adding “the boycott would only go to exacerbate the agony of Mr. Abodakpi and his family, who naturally must be feeling traumatised by it all.”
On the ongoing boycott of Parliament by the NDC MPs and the CJA threat to disrupt the Golden Jubilee celebration, the statement averred that the two were related, coordinated and intended to destabilize the country. “Let’s take note and resist it,” it urged.
