Nkrumah''s Daughter Arrives |
3/2/2007 |
|
Samia Yaaba Nkrumah, the only daughter of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah arrives in Accra tomorrow, 3rd March, 2007 to participate in activities marking the 50th independence anniversary. Samia who has been invited by the Government is expected to join her younger brother Sekou Nkrumah who lives in Ghana.. Samia recently gave an insightful interview on her father in Rome when she was invited by the Ghana Embassy in that city to participate in activities to launch the 50th independence anniversary.
The last time the Nkrumah family was in town in 1997 for the 40th independence celebrations they had to make do with accommodation at Accra`s Golden Tulip Hotel as the state-assigned house for the family had been re-allocated to former Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Justice D.F. Annan by the P/NDC.
At the time, maverick son of Kwame Nkrumah, Sekou who was ‘perching’ with a friend ruffled feathers when he called a press conference at the gates of the Nkrumah home to draw attention to the insensitivity and ventriloquism of the P/NDC on his father`s heritage. Even that did not solve his problems until the NPP took over the administration of the country in 2001 and directed that the Nkrumah mansion be returned to the family. The mansion was subsequently refurbished and handed over to the Nkrumah family and is presently being occupied by `last baby` Sekou Nkrumah.
A journalist and university worker, Samia is domiciled in Italy where she is married to an Italian-Danish. It is not immediately known if one of her elder brothers, Gamal Gorkeh Nkrumah, also a journalist with Egypt`s Al-Ahram news journal will be participating in the 50th independence anniversary. Gamal and Nkrumah`s wife Fathia Riz are domiciled in Egypt. Madam Fathia is reported to be unwell and will not be in Ghana to join in the celebrations.
