Ghana dedicates road to Nigerian President
Accra, March 7, GNA - Government on Wednesday dedicated a two-and-a-half kilometre road located in the city of Accra to President Olusengu Obasanjo of Nigeria.
The road stretches from the 37th Military Hospital Roundabout through to Dimples Junction on the Achimota-Abeka Lapaz Highway. The dedication was in recognition of President Obasanjo''s immense contribution to Ghana.
Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and President Obasanjo jointly unveiled the plaque, which read: "His Excellency Olusengu Obasanjo Road. A True Friend and Brother. Ghana is proud of you."
Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, Mayor of Accra, also read a citation to President Obasanjo.
The citation read: "The City of Accra, Ghana, has followed with keen interest and admiration the overwhelming support you offered to President John Agyekum Kufuor and his Government when the NPP took over the administration of this beloved country.
"The Olusengu Obasanjo Road is dedicated to you as a true brother on this special occasion of Ghana''s 50th Independence Anniversary Celebration.
"The City of Accra wishes you good health and long life during your remaining tenure in office as President and your retirement." In his remarks President Obasanjo described the gesture as unique for one of the most important streets in the nation''s capital to be named after him.
President Obasanjo praised Ghana for the immense role she has been playing in the African Union saying there was a regeneration of what happened on the nation''s independence in 1957.
In attendance were Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr Kwadwo Mpanin, Chief of Staff and Nana Addo Danqkwa Akufo-Addo, Foreign Minister.
