Govt instituted GPRS to maintain macro-economic stability |

Kumasi, March 21, GNA - Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister on Wednesday said Government instituted the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy II (GPRS II) to maintain macro-economic stability, pursue private sector growth, vigorous resources development, good governance and civic responsibility.
He therefore called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to prepare their medium-term development plans based on the strategy from 2006-2009.
Mr Owusu-Ansah made the observation in an address read on his behalf at a day''s orientation workshop on the District Monitoring and Evaluation Guidelines organized by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in Kumasi.
The workshop attended by representatives from the 21 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region was to educate them on monitoring and evaluation plans.
The plans are to guide the assemblies to generate reliable and valid information that would assist Government to make sound policies within a broader framework on public sector management and accountability.
Mr Owusu-Ansah stressed the need for the assemblies to resource their District Planning Co-ordinating Units to monitor and co-ordinate their programmes and projects.
He called on traditional authorities, civil society organizations, professionals and religious organizations to express their views through the appropriate channels to ensure effective execution of programmes and projects in their areas.
Mr Owusu-Ansah urged area councils, unit committees to play active role in the development process.
Mr Jonathan K. Azasoo, Senior Planning Analyst of NDPC, advised the assemblies to sensitise their people on the benefits of GPRS II.
