| CDD unhappy about comments on APRM report |

The governance think-tank Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) says findings of the Africa Peer Review Mechanism reflect the collective defects in Ghana’s governance systems and not that of the Kufuor Administration.
Executive Director of the CDD Professor Gyimah Boadi is therefore urging caution in discussions on the APRM report released on Sunday.
He says instead of debating how best to implement the recommendations, some members of civil society and the opposition NDC in particular are using the report as a tool against the NPP government.
Speaking to Joy News the CDD boss said if the practice continues, the country could loose sight of the invaluable suggestions in the document.
“ Listening to media reactions…to the Ghana APRM report, I find them some what misleading and confusing. They have to correct this and they have to put the report in its proper perspective in order to get the best results out of it,” he said.
Asked what was wrong with how the media had covered the report, Professor Gyima Boadi said “ first of all the report and its findings are not really specific to the NPP or the NDC administrations. They cover the situation in Ghana with governance, social and economic development, corporate governance and with governance as it prevails and has been prevailing over the last 5-6 years,”
“CDD was intimately involved in the technical assessment on the democracy and governance side so it is a little bit painful to us when we see that the report is quickly degenerating,” he said.
Professor Gyimah Boadi says the presentations and reactions of the report have degenerated into what describes as “ political ‘football’.
“ The findings are presented as if they are findings of failures of the Kufuor administration and if you read the report carefully you will realize that it is speaking on issues and problems that pertain in politics, governance and democracy in Ghana. They speak to institutions and processes, they do not speak to regimes,” he said.
