Boakye Djan eyes public office 6/23/2005
A Former member of the AFRC junta, retired major Kojo Boakye- Djan is relishing an opportunity to hold public office, arguing that he has the credentials to help manage the country.

Many people who heard of his participation in a recent CPP event linked it a possible ambition for public office.

Whilst refusing to answer direct questions about his presidential ambitions following his sudden affinity with and defense of the Nkrumahist tradition, Major Boakye Djan says he is desirous of working with a team to govern the country.

The former number two man during the AFRC regime told Komla Dumor on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show that it is too early yet to start talking about presidential ambitions but dropped hints when he made reference to his credentials as a leading member of the AFRC.

We bring you excerpts of that interview.
Kolma: Should we now add your name to the list of Presidential hopefuls of a reformed CPP?

Boakye Djan: Unfortunately I happen to belong to a school of thought that believes in not putting the cart before the horse. I am a long-term planner; there is no structure now to deliver me to become president so why try?

Komla: But do you think that you have those qualities that could offer to the CPP and the people of Ghana?

Boakye Djan: Oh sure, I mean in 1979 I was part of a team that sought to fix this country within four months on record time within our politics. We did four policies and we met our commitments. So if I come and tell you that some of our colleagues have plans to fix this country within four months, you better believe us.

Komla: Would you like to be president?

Boakye Djan: My personal ambition is to be part of a team that will fix this county within four years.

Komla: So you definitely want to be in public office?

Boakye Djan: sure

Komla: Where exactly would you like to play your role to be part of the team?

Boakye Djan: You see that is not the issue at the moment because you have to have a disciplined party that would examine your personality and your claim. All we can do in the meantime is for us to be seen to be doing certain things that will put us in the limelight or in the eyes of decision makers. But all I can say is that I will be part of the team that will deliver CPP.

Komla: If the opportunity were given to you to contest a presidential slot, would you take it?

Boakye Djan: I would consider it but at the moment that is not the priority.
