The minority leader in Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin has criticised the constant call by people on politicians to avoid being partisan when discussing issues of national interest. According to hon. Babgin such calls on politicians could be attributed to a misunderstanding of the whole concept of multi party democracy.
He explained that divergent views based on the political ideologies of people are bound to be expressed in a multi-party dispensation. In an interview with Peace FM’s correspondent, Emmanuel Akorli in Accra, the minority leader said politicians should rather be urged to refrain from sensationalism and emotionalism and also avoid the use of indecent language when discussing issues of national interest.
One problem he pointed out was the fact that the culture of democracy in the country is not yet deep enough for people to develop the level of patience to tolerate divergent views.
