Aksombo Dam Will Not Be Shut Down In 3 Weeks The Minister for Energy, Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda says the Akosombo Dam will not be closed down in 3 weeks as being speculated by some media commentators. Mr. Adda told PeaceFM today that the government has already acquired machines and generators that will produce power to augment what is currently being produced by the Akosombo Dam. According to the Energy Minister, government is now waiting for those generating plants and equipment so that the short-term approach to power crisis could be achieved.
Mr. Adda maintained that the short-term plan is to get available alternative sources of power supply such as solar, wind and solid waste. He stated that government has also entered into agreement with some power-generating organizations to help save the country from crisis. The minister however denied that Cabinet had given the government the green light to generate power from nuclear energy.
He said a publication in the Ghanaian media to that effect earlier in the week is inaccurate. He explained that there has been a document urging government to opt for nuclear energy, but stated however that the government has not taken a decision it.
