The technical fault at the Aboadze Thermal Plant which led to prolonged bouts of power outage in some parts of the country has been rectified. The Director of Thermal Generation at the Plant, Mr Steve Doku, made this known to the Ghanaian Times on Tuesday. He explained that the parts had been procured on Monday ahead of the fault, and added that the problem was fixed by 4 pm on Tuesday. He, therefore, gave the assurance that with the rectification of the problem, the Aboadze Thermal Plant was now operating on full stream. Last Sunday’s fault resulted in a 110-megawatts power trip, leading to unscheduled power outages. It caused inconveniences to the public that has had to endure a load shedding regime since August last year. An earlier announcement by the Volta River Authority and Electricity Company of Ghana that one of the two Gas turbines at the Aboadze Plant had developed a problem that would take about a week to solve, raised anxiety among the public. The statement painted a grim picture, when it said the situation had resulted in a shortfall, which could not be catered for with power from the Akosombo dam, which is running on two out of six turbines.
