| Commey''s Comments Underlines NPP''s Arrogance |

The former Brong Ahafo Regional secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mohammed Kwaku Doku says the ruling NPP''s National Organiser Lord Commey''s comment on NDC Presidential Candidate, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills House to House campaign depicts the arrogance of the NPP as a party.
Mr. Doku said he was more surprised to hear such uncomplimentary comments from Mr. Commey on Hello FM, a Kumasi-based radio station and as captured by the statesman newspaper last weekend, because it is a known fact that the NPP has never respected what he called the "down trodden" in the history of Ghana politics.
Mr. Doku, who is also a former District Chief Executive of Asunafo said when the erstwhile PNDC government saw it prudent the inclusion and participation of various informal groupings who had never been part of the national decision making process such as market women, hairdressers, GPRTU, among many others in the consultative Assembly which drew the 1992 Constitution which is being used to govern Ghana today, members from the U.P Tradition could not understand why they should sit and discuss constitutional and governance matters with such groups.
According to him the elites of the U.P. Tradition from which the NPP was formed saw members of such group as not qualified to have a say in national matters, that is why their inclusion in the National Consultative Assembly saw members from their tradition under the guise of Ghana Bar Association boycotting the assembly.The former DCE asserted that any member of the U.P. Tradition who participated in the consultative assembly did so behind the cloak as selected members of their various District Assemblies. He was speaking to newsmen in the Brong Ahafo Region over weekend.
He said it is true that Prof. Mill''s campaign tour to some target groups was not new because as social Democrats, "our leadership always recognizes such group and had involved them in Ghana''s democratic process and as such their participation in the consultative assembly to draw the constitution of Ghana which is the only one which has seen our country through fifteen years of uninterrupted Constitutional rule and has seen four elections already with a ruling party handing over power to an opposition party paecefully".
Mr. Doku said, what is different about Prof. Mill''s campaign tour is that he lays bear the truth, sought inputs and contributions from the people on how best the problems confronting the people could be solved together.He said it was not the duty of the NPP to tell whether Prof. Mill’s campaign strategy will fly in the next elections because the NDC was already aware of what they are in for. Mr. Doku noted that the people Prof. Mills'' had already visited would be the better judges.
