| World No-Tobacco Day Launched |

The Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Samuel Owusu Agyei says scientific evidence shows that tobacco is a silent killer and is fast becoming a greater cause of death and disability in the world. He said it was in line with the alarming indications that Ghana joined the rest of the world to celebrate the World No-Tobacco Day under a sub-theme, “Second-hand Smoke Kills”: Let’s Clear The Air,” whilst the world theme was “Smoke Free Environment”.
Hon. Owusu Agyei stated these at the launch of National World – No Tobacco Day” at Tema yesterday. He said smoking has been associated with lung cancer and many heart diseases. He emphasized that government strongly supports all earlier directives that sought to ban tobacco use in public places. On his part, the director of Human Resource Development Directorate of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Ken Sagoe says smokers are less in number than non-smokers so smokers infringe on the rights of non-smokers by inhaling their smoke through second-hand smoking.
The chief of Tema, Temamantse Osongoaa, Nii Adjei Kraku II, who graced the occasion urged both experienced smokers and the youth to practice the anti-tobacco advise and be free from deaths and diseases.
