Kumasi, June 17, GNA- Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene has called on journalists in the country to educate the public and stop creating tension in the country with stories they file in both the print and electronic media.
He noted; "while we expect journalists to inform, teach and educate the public, they must be sure with the sort of reportage they gave out to the public".
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made the call when he was interacting with Mr. Ibrahim Awal the newly appointed Managing Director of Graphic Communication Group Limited, who called on him at the Manhyia Palace at the weekend as part of his working tour of the Ashanti Region. He said as professional journalists, there was no need to support one political party against the other. He urged journalists to know their facts well before filing their stories in order not to mislead the public and create tension in the stable socio economic environment that the people of the country were enjoying.
The Asantehene said there was the need for journalists to show respect to both the current and former presidents as leaders of the country. Journalist should always report on issues which can help the country move forward in its developmental programmes, he added. Otumfuo Osei Tutu congratulated Mr. Ibrahim Awal for his appointment and said it was appropriate that his appointment was not made by the president but by the National Media Commission.
"You have gone through the ranks of Graphic; therefore you should know how healthy you will deal with your colleagues and other officers who will assist you to run the company," Otumfuo advised. The Asantehene said Graphic had in the past and now been giving factual information to the public and asked it to maintain the spirit. Mr. Awal, on his part expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for his words of wisdom and pledge to make use of the advice. He presented to the Asantehene some copies of "Graphic Asempa" which was lunched in May this year for Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions.Source: GNA
