| Presidential Palace To Be Completed By Close of Year |

The Chief of Staff and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Kwadwo Mpiani on Friday told Parliament $36 million has been spent so far on the presidential palace which is ongoing at the Flagstaff House. Mr Mpiani made this known when he appeared before the House to answer questions from Alfred Agbesi (NDC, Ashaiman) about the amount spent so far on the Palace and when the palace will be completed.
He told the House that about 69 percent of work on the project has been completed so far and that by close of this year, work would be completed. In a question posed by the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Samuel Sallas Mensah (NDC-Upper West Akim) as to the contract sum of the project, Mr Mpiani said work on the seat of government and the presidency building, being undertaken by Messrs Shapoorji Pallonji and Co Limited of India, has a contract sum of over $36 million. The Indian government, he said, is providing $30m, with the government of Ghana providing the remainder.
In an answer to a question from Samuel Ofosu Asamoah (NPP, Kade) as to whether or not the amount left can finance the completion of the project, the Chief of Staff noted that though contractors and consultants will have to do variations to be able to ascertain that, he could not rule out a price fluctuation, alerting the House of the possibility of his coming back to ask for more money to complete the project.
