| DFP Declares ‘War’ On NDC |

The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has declared ‘war’ on the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with a vow to break NDC’s aura of supremacy in the Volta Region by dealing a decisive blow to it in the 2008 elections. To this end, the Volta Regional branch of DFP has mapped out strategies to execute the ‘coup de grace’ and win massively not only votes, but Parliamentary seats as well.
Speaking to the Daily Guide newspaper in an interview in Accra, the Volta Regional Chairman of DFP, Mr. Gershon Ayiih said there were indications that Voltarians were fed up with the NDC and needed a change.Mr. Ayiih said his party was poised to win 11 out of the 22 Parliamentary seats in the Volta Region.
He gave the assurance that the DFP would bring about the change the people of the region had been yearning for and that the party was ready to demystify the perception that the Volta Region was the preserve of one particular party - the NDC. Touching on what the party was doing to realize those lofty ideas, Mr. Ayiih stated that both the Buem and Biakoye Constituencies would definitely fall for the DFP and eventually pave the way for the other constituencies to follow suit.
He mentioned that at a recent outreach programme in Buem and Biakoye, about 400 people showed interest in and declared their support for the party.On the vision of the party, Mr. Ayiih stated the DFP would devote time and resources to agriculture as a way of providing raw materials for industries.“We don’t want to make promises now; not that we do not have anything to give, but want to stress on galvanizing a way for development, to re-energize the local industries that have been sold,” he stated.
Mr. Ayiih mentioned that the party would help to re-establish the Ghanaian identity, where the love for one’s country and its human resources would be properly developed to alleviate poverty. He however admitted that the party was not financially sound to provide the needed logistics to cover all the Volta Region and so had to do it gradually.Mr. Ayiih commended the youth of Buem and Biakoye for their decision to join the party, saying such support would win votes for the party.One of the lieutenants to execute the plans of the DFP is Mr. Emile Brantuo, a former NDC Member of Parliament for Buem, who pledged to work hard to annex the Buem seat for the DFP.
A 14-member constituency executive led by Mac Toza Agbagba as chairman was later inaugurated to champion the course of the party in the Buem Constituency. Other members included John Israel, Vice Chairman; Oscar Esesi Unaboe, Secretary; Amoah Doudou, Organiser; Ernest Apreko, Youth Organiser and Anna Afenyo, Women’s Organiser.
