The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is working to finalize a bill on political party financing to be presented to parliament.
In pursuant of that, the Institute is soliciting the views of political parties in the country on the bill.
The IEA intends to present the bill to parliament when it reconvenes for consideration.
The IEA has been gathering views on how to better finance party politics in Ghana for the past one year. The aim is to legislate the financing of party politics to enhance the country’s democracy.
The IEA has therefore, organised a forum for representatives of six political parties to consider and make inputs on the bill before it is submitted to parliament.
The IEA is hoping that the bill can be passed for the law to come into force in January 2009.
The parties represented at the forum are the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Party (NDC), Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Peoples National Convention (PNC), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), and the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP).
