Doctors Reject New Salary Structure 10/1/2007
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has rejected a new salary structure expected to come into effect this month of October. The GMA says it won’t accept the new salary structure because it puts its members at a disadvantage. In a statement signed by the GMA President, Dr Francis Adu-Ababio, and Secretary, Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, the doctors say the new structure was also agreed on without any input from the Medical Association.

The association says it found out about the new structure through a statement from the Health Minister, Major (rtd) Courage Quashigah, suggesting that the new structure will resolve the so-called impasse between doctors and the other health workers. The association says it would reject any attempt to slash the salaries of doctors to bridge the income gap in the health sector.

The leadership of doctors in the country has therefore vowed to fight any attempt to alter the Health Sector Salary Structure which does not give due regard to the exhaustive job description and evaluation exercise undertaken in the health sector.
