| NDPC orders assemblies to submit plans immediately |

Wa, October 1, GNA- Captain Patrick Donkor (RTD), Head of Monitoring and Evaluation, National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), on Monday appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies that have not yet submitted their district monitoring and evaluation plans to the commission to do so without further delay. He expressed regret that none of the eight municipal and district assemblies in the Upper West Region had submitted its monitoring and evaluation plans to the commission.
The deadline for the submission to such plans was May 31. Capt Donkor said this at a meeting with planning officers and other senior officials of district assemblies in the region. The NDPC is seeking to find out the reasons behind their inability to prepare and submit their district monitoring and evaluation plans to it.
He said the preparation of monitoring and evaluation plans by the assemblies was a core management function that centred on good governance.
This allows for easy assessment of how socio-economic projects undertaken by the assemblies had positively impacted on the lives of the people.
In addition, policy makers need to make informed decision based on the district medium term development plans as well as development partners of the country who depend on the result of the monitoring and valuation report before making any decision as to how they intend assisting the country.
Mrs Winifred Dy-yakah, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, directed that no project outside the medium term development plans should be undertaken without the explicit approval of the district assemblies. She said officials of district assemblies had the tendency to undertake projects outside their medium term development plans which distort planning by the assemblies. Mrs Dy-yakah appealed to District Chief executives in the region to take personal interest in the implementation of their monitoring and evaluation plans to ensure that they achieved success in their respective districts.Source:
