... Letter from Mensah to NPP My Dear Chairman, THE CHAIRMAN NPP SUNYANI EAST BRANCH SUNYANI, BRONG AHAFO The National Executive Committee of the NPP has decided that the procedures for selecting Parliamentary candidates for Sunyani East and other constituencies shall take place between 1st and 31st March.
It is appropriate for me to promptly inform you, the Executive Committee and members of the Sunyani East Branch generally that I have decided not to offer myself for election to another term as your Member of Parliament. It has been a great privilege to have been able to represent Sunyani Constituency off and on during the past forty years in Ghana’s Legislature. I now intend to serve the people of Ghana in other spheres.
Until the end of the mandate of this Fourth Parliament I will continue to work with your Committee to bring as near to completion as possible the numerous projects that we have initiated together for the welfare of the citizens of Sunyani Municipality. I will also take a full part in helping to select as candidate and elect to Parliament a worthy successor to carry forward these endeavours.
Above all, I hope that, apart from winning our own Parliamentary seat once more, members of Sunyani East Constituency will redouble their efforts to secure the election of NPP’s Presidential candidate, Hon. Nana Akufo-Addo. He will surely add a brilliant new chapter to the remarkable record of success which our Party has chalked up in the course of these last two Parliaments to which you so generously elected me.
Before January 2009 I will find a suitable opportunity to take proper leave of you and thank you for your support in the modest achievements that we have also been able to record in Sunyani. In the meantime please extend my best regards to the Executive Committee and the entire membership of our illustrious Constituency.
