The missing head on the statue of Ghana’s First President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, has been presented to the authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah memorial park. The missing head of the statue of Dr Nkrumah was delivered by the Information Services Department (ISD).
At the ceremony in Accra, the Director of the park officially handed over the head to the Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture Mr Alex Asum- Ahensen.
The head and arm of Dr Kwame Nkrumah mounted at the memorial park got missing after the 1962 coup d’etat forty three years ago. The presentation of the head followed an appeal by the Director of the Park, Mr Kweku Manu Assimah to the public to help locate and retrieve the missing head and arm.
The missing head, according to the ISD was given to the Depasrtment since 1997. by a woman whose name has been withheld.
The Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture, Mr Alex Asum-Ahensen who received the found head of Dr Nkrumah also appealed to the public to assist the committee set up for the celebration of Dr Nkrumah with relevant document to ensure a smooth centenary birthday
A Deputy Minister for Information, Mr Samuel Okuzeto Ablakwa underscored the significance of Dr Nkrumah in Ghana’s history, stressing that Ghana cannot afford to lose out on Dr Nkrumah’s legacy.
Mr Ablakwa also encouraged any individual or group of persons who have in possession the arm of Dr Nkrumah to return it, in order to have his or her name recorded in the history of Ghana.
