90 MPs In Bed 5/13/2010

IT HAS now become clear that majority of NPP Members of Parliament are in bed with the 2008 presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is seeking re-election on August 7 as the party’s 2012 flag-bearer.
Isaac Asiamah, MP for Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region, and a member of the Akufo-Addo for President 2012 campaign team, declared that over 90 out of the 107 NPP MPs have resolved to throw their weight behind the one-time MP for Abuakwa South, so as to secure victory for the NPP in the next elections.
According to Isaac Asiamah, Ranking Member for Youth and Sports, out of the 36 Ashanti NPP MPs, 27 have so far openly declared support for the second presidential bid of Nana Akufo-Addo.
He explained that the unanimous decision by the lawmakers to support Nana Addo was based on the assessment they made on the ground as representatives of the people who are in constant touch with their constituents at the grassroots level.
Hon. Asiamah said Nana Akufo-Addo carries an overwhelming support among the rank and file of the party, and non-party members alike.
Addressing delegates during Nana Addo’s campaign tour of the Brong Ahafo Region, the Atwima Mponua MP said the NPP has come to a critical point where it needs to present a winnable candidate to wrestle power from the ruling NDC in 2012, and that Nana Akufo-Addo is the best man for the task.
According to him, Nana Addo is a clean man with no spots and has been cleared by six audit reports which were separately conducted at the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Ministry of Justice by the NDC government, and which were aimed at implicating him in corrupt acts. He said Nana Addo passed the forensic, performance and financial audits when he served under the Kufuor administration as minister, making him “highly incorruptible.”
Isaac Asiamah noted that among the presidential aspirants, Nana Akufo-Addo is the most popular one who has already been marketed and made a household name amongst the voting population.
Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE’s independent investigation in Brong Ahafo has established that 10 out of the 15 NPP MPs in the region have declared their support for an Akufo-Addo presidency.
It will be recalled that the leadership of the NPP issued a string of decrees barring all MPs, regional and constituency executives and other executives from openly declaring their support or campaign for any of the contesting candidates.
The warning, which has obviously not been adhered to, was however aimed at ensuring a level playing field and to bring some amount of sanity into the campaign process for candidates vying to become flag-bearer of the party.
