The first batch of Ghanaians have been successfully evacuated from Libya and are currently at the Aviation Social Centre where they are being screened.

Joy News reporter Elvis Adjetey who was at the Aviation Social Centre reports that the Ghanaians arrived on board an Egypt Air flight and were met by government functionaries.

According to the report about 55 Ghanaians –all male- arrived from Libya.

Officials say the Ghanaians who have arrived were airlifted from the Egyptian border.

One of the returnees who spoke to Joy News said he is happy to be back in Ghana and is on his way to Kumasi to see his family.

He said the demonstrations were still on going and that the government should continue to help bring back those who are stranded in the country as a result of the mass demonstrations against the Libyan leader.

There have been mass demonstrations against Libyan president Muammar Al-Gaddafi with Libyans calling for him to step down after 42 years in office.

Ghanaians and other nationals have suffered from the attacks from Libyans who have accused black Africans of being used as Mecenaries against the people.

There are still thousands of Ghaians waiting to be evacuated from the troubled North African country

No Ghanaian is reported dead in the political crisis.
