| Relationship between Ghana, Turkey Deepens |

The President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills has assured the Turkish government of Ghana’s commitment to promote a healthy business environment between the two countries.
He said this at the Castle, Osu, yesterday, following bilateral talks he held with the visiting Turkish President, Mr. Abdullah Gul.
Ghana and Turkey have had Diplomatic relations since 1958 and the two countries are making strides to strengthen their bilateral and trade ties in recent times.
The two Presidents had discussions on various areas of development and the regularisation of Diplomatic relations between the two countries.
President Mills said he is grateful to the Turkish government for providing scholarships to Ghanaian students in the areas of computer education, health and science. Adding that he was glad that Mr. Gul have traveled to the country with potential investors to identify opportunities and do business in Ghana.
He noted the many areas for investment in the country that can yield fruitful dividend to investors. “There is abundance of man power and resources available”, he said.
President Mills assured the Turkish delegation that the signing of the bilateral agreements will be put to operation to enhance national development.
“We will collaborate and learn more from your country since your economy is far ahead of our economy”.
President Gul on his part, said his country is determined to develop relations with Ghana and Africa on the basis of equality and cooperation.
“Turkey has been implementing an opening policy towards Africa since 1998 which intends to diversify and deepen political, military, economic and cultural cooperation”, Mr. Gül said.
He commended President Mills for the massive progress of development in the country and the inspiration he has shown the people of Ghana and the sub region.
Turkey is looking forward to hosting President Mills for opening Ghana’s mission in Ankara, while he announced the reopening of the Turkish embassy in Accra which has been closed since 1981.
Both counties signed bilateral agreements on air service, health and medical sciences, mutual abolishment of visas for holders of diplomatic passports and a memorandum of understanding to establish consultation for political mechanisms between Ghana and Turkey.
