“Absolutely” - Nana Konadu Declares |

Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has finally put paid to speculations about whether her decision to step down as a National Vice-Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) ostensibly to contest President Mills for the NDC’s flagbearership was a fluke or not by replying “absolutely” to a question on whether she will indeed run against President Mills.
A couple of weeks ago, Mrs Rawlings stepped down as a National Vice-Chairman of the ruling NDC. In the letter, dated April 13, 2011 and copied to among others the founder of the party, Mrs Rawlings said the move will “enable” her “respond to numerous calls on her to contest the Flag bearer ship of the NDC when nominations are opened.”
However, several days after General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia announced at a press conference that nominations are opened and also spelt out guidelines for the primaries; the former First Lady is yet to pick up her forms to concretize reports about her presidential ambitions.
But at the unofficial Easter Party dubbed FAMOUS 5 organised by Events and More together with PeaceFM, held at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC), Nana Konadu finally spilled the beans amidst cheers from patrons at the well-attended musical extravaganza.
Host of PeaceFM’s flagship programme, “Kokrokoo”, Kwami Sefa Kayi, who emceed the musical event, stepped down from the stage after a showstopping performance by evergreen Amakye Dede, and thrust the microphone in the face of Mrs. Rawlings after asking her whether she really intends to contest President Mills.
The former First Lady was non-committal initially. But the immaculately dressed MC and bald-headed host of arguably the most listened to radio programme in the country would not be deterred. He prodded and probed as if he was conducting a live radio interview by again asking Mrs. Rawlings whether she will run against President Mills, with the crowd screaming; “yes, yes!”
Perhaps inspired by the spontaneous reaction of the audience, Nana Konadu told Sefa Kayi; “just listen to the gathering”.
“The crowd just said ‘yes, yes’, to my question, so is that also your response?” Kwami asked her.
“Absolutely!” Nana Konadu stated amidst wild cheers and deafening show of appreciation from the audience. Indeed it was a never-to-be-forgotten night of music, dance, thrills and fun that will sure be embedded in the minds of the massive crowd that thronged the venue.
The musical extravaganza began with a solid performance by silky highlife crooner Kwabena Kwabena, a gem of a musician. He was followed by No Tribe, undoubtedly the most sought after gospel group in the country.
They were indeed a delight to watch.
Next on stage were the “Muje Baya” boys from Adabraka, Five Five. Personally, my man of the night was Abrantie “Iron Boy” Amakye Dede aka “Seeerious” who interlaced his superb stagecraft and performance with “impeccable” English; if you get my drift.
The final act on the night was “Music Man” Maestro Kwadwo Antwi. As usual, the 24th December man did not disappoint as he gave patrons value for their money.
