| Cabinet Approves Renewable Energy Bill |

Cabinet has approved the Renewable Energy Bill which seeks to integrate renewable energy security in the country.
The bill provides for a feed-in tariff mechanism to encourage the adoption and use of renewable energy.
The Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Dr Alfred K. Ofosu Ahenkorah, told the Daily Graphic that the bill would be sent to Parliament for consideration and possible approval.
He said when the bill is passed into law, it will create a platform for the trading of renewable energy and provide for a renewable energy purchase obligation for the utility services and bulk customers.
Dr Ahenkorah said the law will provide for the integration of biofuel into petroleum so that those who produce biodiesel can have a market.
The Ghana Renewable Energy Fund will be created under the law to support renewable energy. It will provide funds for renewable energy. It will provide funds for renewable energy. It will provide funds for renewable energy promotion, research and other activities.
Besides, the fund will supply seed money for renewable energy companies, depending on how much will be demanded by the companies.
Meanwhile, Dr Ahenkorah said the Energy Commission has sponsored pilot projects on grid-connected solar system in five areas to promote the use of renewable energy.
The beneficiaries are the Presbyterian Women’s Training Centre, Abokobi; the Valley View University, Oyibi; Pure Company, an agro-processing company at Benkrom in the Kintampo District, and two private residences in Accra.
