Ghana’s economy cannot improve if all that the citizens do is discuss differences, the Christian Council of Ghana says.
Chairman of the Council, Rev Dr Paul Kofi Fynn says the fight against poverty and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) required all hands on deck.
Rev Fynn was addressing a news conference in Accra on Tuesday.
He called on professional bodies and Ghanaians at large to reflect soberly on the country’s situation and rededicate themselves to the development of the nation.
He said recent newspaper reports seemed to indicate that all was not well with the political parties and the situation did not augur well for national security and harmony.
“ Since we seek to build a vibrant and peaceful democracy, there is the need to bury all political differences and put Ghana first. The Christian Council of Ghana appeals to the political parties to put the nation first and spend more time discussing issues of national interest such as education, health and poverty,” he said.
Making a contribution, the General Secretary of the council, Rev Fred Deegbe said the council stopped pursuing its attempts to reconcile President Kufuor and former president Jerry Rawlings when the National House of Chiefs took up the task.
He said all what the council wants is reconciliation and it therefore supports the mediation efforts.
