Mpohor-Wassa East to spend ¢705 million on projects
Daboase (W/R), Oct. 6, GNA - The Mpohor Wassa East District Assembly is to spend 705 million cedis out of 718 million cedis realised through internally generated funds as at July this year on development projects.
Mr Edward Tawiah Amprofi, District Chief Executive, told the second ordinary meeting of the third session at Daboase on Wednesday that the Assembly had estimated to achieve a target of 1.8 billion cedis by the end of the year.
He said the amount realised from the internally generated funds so far indicated that the Assembly had performed creditably though funds from the Assemblies'' Common Fund, which was released late, fell short by 300 million cedis.
Mr Amprofi said the Assembly received a total of 1.4 billion cedis as its share of the Common Fund and said this would be used to undertake new projects and rehabilitate some existing ones. He said the projects included the construction of blocks of classrooms, urinals and vault chamber toilets, junior staff quarters, Police posts and the purchase a vehicle.
Mr Samuel B. Effah, Presiding Member, said the delay in the repayment of over one billion cedis poverty alleviation loans in the District was preventing others from accessing the funds. He appealed to members to advise defaulters in their areas to re-pay the loans without delay.
Mr Effah also appealed to the people to make environmental cleanliness their priority to check the outbreak of diseases including malaria.
He said the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) would succeed only if less pressure was exerted on health facilities and urged Assembly members to educate the people to register with the Scheme and adopt healthy lifestyles to avert preventable diseases. Mr Anthony E. Amoah, Member of Parliament for the area said 19 communities within the District would soon be connected to the national electricity grid.
He said three companies had been contracted for the job, while negotiations were underway with the management of the Akyempim Mines to assist in the electrification of Akyempim, Togbekrom, Kubekro and Nsadweso.
Mr Amoah said the 10-kilometre Apowa-Mpohor road contract awarded to Legna Construction Limited had been terminated for non-performance, but assured the people that roads, electricity and other basic infrastructure would be provided to make the District economically independent. 6 Oct. 05
