| Female Teacher Wins Award |

A 41-YEAR-OLD tutor of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI), Mrs. Patricia Ampofowaa Boso, was declared the national best teacher for 2012 at the 18th National Teacher Award ceremony held in Kumasi yesterday.
The female teacher, who is a mother of three, beat two male contenders from Sekondi College in the Western Region and T. I. Ahmmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi, to win the covetous best teacher award.
This is the second time KTI, the number one technical school in the Garden City, has won the award.
In 2009, Kingsley Akom, 42, from the same institute, won the national best teacher award at a ceremony held in Koforidua.
Mrs. Ampofowaa Boso took home a three-bedroom house, a laptop and a set of computer and accessories for her school, KTI, where she teaches electronics.
Philip Kwabena Bukari, a geography teacher of Sekondi College, was adjudged the first runner-up. He took home a double-decker pick-up, a personal laptop and a set of computer and accessories for his school.
Agornyo Donne of T.I. Ahmmadiyya Senior High School (SHS) in Kumasi was adjudged the second runner-up.
He took home a Sunny saloon car, in addition to a personal laptop and a set of computer and accessories for his school.
Eighty-two other teaching and non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) from the Kindergarten to the Senior High School (SHS) level, as well as some retirees, were also honoured and presented with various prizes.
Awards were also given to national service teachers, foreign volunteers, and HIV Alert School, with some of them going home with double-door fridges, LCD TV sets, laptops, gas cookers, native carvings, artefacts, home theatres, certificates, citations and cash.
The event brought together teachers from all parts of the country and other high-profile personalities including Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, Education Minister Lee Ocran and his deputy.
The ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Nana Kwakye Sakodie II, chief of Sewia, who deputizes the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Mrs. Boso expressed her gratitude to the organizers and sponsors for the honour bestowed on her, promising to work hard.
She dedicated her award to female teachers in the various vocational and technical institutes across the country, urging them to strive for excellence.
