Koo Nimo Performs at C''wealth Leaders Conference
Dr. Daniel Amponsah alias, Agya Koo Nimo, leading guitar player and a master of folkore music in Ghana will for the second time in two decades perform for Commonwealth leaders when they meet in Malta between November 25-27 2005. After his first performance with his whole ensemble, The Adadamagofomma at London''s Holland''s Park in 1984, he would on this second occassion be supported by two artists, Osei Kwame John, the undisputed seprewa player in Ghana who works at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana and Emelia Yaa Fosua of the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi. The Trio, representing three generations of high musicality will perform for the 53 Commonwealth leaders at the opening of the conference on November 25.
They were among a dozen artists from the Commonwealth-Asian vocalists from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India and others from the West Indies and the United Kingdom selected for t! his year''s conference which has the theme: ''''Networking the Commonwealth for Development''''.
Already in London, the Koo Nimo Trio as they are officially labelled would tonight do a preview performance at the Commonwealth Club to celebrate the opening of The Royal Commonwealth Society''s auditorium. A spectacular multicultural celebration '''' of the diverse musical talents of the Commonwealth nations'''' would be on parade. The evening would be dedicated to the victims of the South Asia earthquake.
Yesterday, the Koo Nimo Trio called on the Ghana High Commissioner, H.E. Isaac Osei and expressed their appreciation to the High Commission, the Ghana Tours, and the Commonwealth for their sponsorhip and said they would perform to the best of the ability . The High Commissioner said the Mission would continue to support cultural programmes and events that sell the country . He praised Agya Koo Nimo! , now 71 and philosophy lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for his contribution to cultural development in Ghana. Present at the reception was Mr. Ivor Agyeman-Duah-Minister Counselor-Information at the High Commission.
