Director of CNC bemoans the gradual decline in Ghanaian culture
Konongo (Ash), Sept 1, GNA - Mr Samuel Francis Adjei, Ashanti Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), has called on Ghanaians to resist the decline in their cultural identity. He said culture was one of the important values of people and no society or nation could survive without its culture.

Inaugurating the reconstituted Asante-Akim North District Cultural Committee at Konongo on Wednesday, Mr Adjei said instead of parents inculcating the nation''s culture and tradition in their children, they encourage them to copy foreign cultures.

The 12-member committee under the Chairmanship of Nana Adu Sarfo, Nyinaponasehene was charged to come out with practical and realistic proposals to help address problems that hinder the development of culture in the district.

Mr Adjei said globalisation was not a avenue for any country to replace her culture and traditions with alien cultures. "As far as we admit that culture is a strong force that can portray our identity as a people, it is important that we accelerate the pace of its development," he added.

He asked the Committee to work together with the District Assembly to establish a cultural village to train the youth in skill acquisition to become self-employed.

Mr George Frimpong, Asante-Akim North District Chief Executive, regretted that Ghanaians had allowed the influence of foreign cultures to undermine the values of the country''s rich culture. He therefore, urged teachers to adopt methods and strategies to make the teaching of culture interesting for the pupils to understand and appreciate the values of their culture.

Mr Frimpong said funds would allocate in next year''s Common Fund allocated to the Assembly to support cultural activities in the district.Source: GNA
