Nine lessons and carols service in Kumasi
Kumasi, Dec 18, GNA - A night festival of nine lessons from the Holy Scriptures and carols dubbed, "Peace on Earth" was held on Friday at the ''Dwabrem'' of the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Kumasi. The night, which has been part of the programmes of the CNC to usher in the yuletide, was organised by the directorate of the Kumasi CNC in conjunction with Kessben Group of Companies.
Group singers who participated in the festival were the Amamereso female choir of the CNC, Amamereso youth choir, Methodist singing band, Anglican diocesan choir, Amamereso choral group, Church of Christ, OTEC choral group, Asante Presbytery choir, Mmofraturo school choir, Royals choir and Adehyeman sacred choral group.
The singers entertained the crowd with songs of praise, thanksgiving, glorification nativity that was interspersed with Bible reading on the birth of Christ.
Some of the readers of the Bible lesson were Dr Steve Sobotie, Principal of University Education Winneba (Kumasi Campus), Mrs Judith Agyemang, Chief Executive of Kapital Radio and Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Chief Executive of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). Others were Mrs Vesta Adu-Gyamfi, Senior Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mrs Bredu Adu, Operations Manager, Trust Bank, Kumasi and Mr Peter King Appiah of the CNC public relations outfit.
The Right Reverend Daniel Yinka Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, in an address, congratulated the organizers of the programme and wished that they continued with the festival every year. He also praised the choristers for their contributions towards the occasion and stressed that choristers formed part of the singers of God in heaven.
The Bishop indicated that the birth of Christ will be celebrated and there was the need for them to prepare their hearts and minds for the occasion.
Rt. Rev Sarfo said there was the need for people, especially Christians to read the scriptures because it is through the Bible that they can find the peace of life that Jesus Christ brought to mankind. "If we want to live exemplary lives, then we must learn from His submissiveness. Those who rely on Jesus are always born a new and blessed by God", he said.
Mr Samuel Adjei, Director of the Kumasi CNC, said the centre was poised to adopt more scientific means of enabling the youth to adapt fully to the nation''s cultural practices. Dec. 18 05
