CNN Multichoice African Journalist award announced
Accra, Jan. 5, GNA - Organizers of the CNN MultiChoice on Thursday announced the 2006 CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards. A statement in Accra said the competition aims to reinforce the importance of the journalists'' role in Africa and to recognise and develop journalistic talent across all disciplines.

The competition is open to African professional journalists (including, but not limited to, African freelancers) working on the Continent for media organisations that are African-owned, have their headquarters within the Continent of Africa and distribute in Africa a printed publication and/or electronic medium broadcast which is primarily targeted at, and received by, an African audience.

The statement said the Judges would be looking for work which tells the story in a clear and balanced manner, communicates stories or issues from Africa in a comprehensive way, has made these stories or issues accessible and relevant to their audiences, demonstrates investigative and journalistic flair, displays well organised research, depth and insight and was broadcast or published between January and December 2005, with proof supplied.

The deadline for the receipt of entries is March 7, 2006. Judging will take place in April 2006 by a panel of distinguished, independent judges with knowledge and experience of journalistic practices in Africa.

The statement said should the quality of entries fall below the standard required; the judges reserved the right not to select a finalist.

Participants can choose to submit material relating to any of several categories, including tourism, general news, arts and culture, health, HIV/AIDS sports and photography.
