The music industry has from time to time been enjoying growth in the case of new album releases on the charts by hard working musicians who also try to see a commercial break through by fates.
Lately, concerns have been expressed by skeptics and music critics and attention has been focused in areas where by appraisal and advice, one sees the need and importance of what instrument playing means to musicians.
This means playing of music instrument should be married to the study of rudiments of music and setting lyrics into music.
For this reason, a young musician Dominic Akwesi Quarchie, aged 20, a product of Accra Academy who is a versatile artist, blessed with an extraordinary talent and plays almost all conventional music instruments one can think of is availing himself of the opportunity by the Erata Talent Hunt project under the aegis of music maestro Kojo Antwi at East Legon, in Accra.
In his not too long musical experience his flirtation with quite a number of prominent and famous artistes namely Obour, Tic Tac, music man Kojo Antwi, Papa Shanti, Mama Glastone etc has paid him great dividends.
Again, this has underscored the fact that he meant business when he paid heed to joining a gang of young talents to be auditioned and assessed of their potential recently.
Dominic who plays bass, lead guitar, keyboard, trombone, drums percussion, has been experimenting with the playing of trumpet, saxophone and the clarinet.
As a musical policy, he is not parochially limited to any genre and plays high life, souka, Jazz, blues reggae, country and western and of course R & B.
In an interview he told this correspondent, of great benefits which he acquired under the tutelage of one Mr. Barley of Estwhile Black Starline Band in the 1990’s which he said has been beneficial.
He interest in Jazz tunes got to a high level so much that he learnt and rehearsed a lot of tracks by great legendary trumpeter Louis ‘Satchmo’ Annstrong one of which include ‘when the saints go marching.’
For reggae, he likes to play reggae legend Bob Martey’s tunes like Redemption song’, ‘Babylon system’, ‘Stir it up!
In a competition organised by a joint churches of Pentecost, Christian Divine, Methodist, Divine Healers, Presbyterian, Apostolic, Everlife Bible in Lartebiokorshie suburb, he was presented with an electric box guitar as his prize after being adjudged the best in instrument playing contest.
Dominic whose enthusiasm has been ignited into a firestorm looking out for the slightest opportunity everywhere is leaving no stone unturned to make his dream come true. In a recently organised competition, Dominic featured and got qualified and had clearance for the next stage, at which a final set would be selected for a benefit support after a critical assessment of an experienced panel has completed its work.
